New Salt Art Coming Soon
Artist Statement - Norma Iris Rivera-Diaz
As a creator in the field of fine arts, my work aims to reconnect the material with the immaterial, the seen and unseen as they play out in the orchestration of daily life. I explore the internal universe of my subject matter from a holistic point of view showing many sides of the subject and revealing to the viewer many sides of him or herself.
The harmonics of my work have a healing ritual quality in the colors and textures I use which reflect and celebrate the sacredness of the Mind, Body, and the Spirit. Sometimes this includes my multicultural, multiracial, Caribbean heritage. I examine multiple dimensions of the human experience, be it personal and/or collective wisdom, or political activism in which I take a stand to do what I feel is right for the evolution of our planet so that we may live in balance with nature, and all this is tempered by my own commitment to the meditative arts. My gift is to see life and play with light from the margins. |

Never a conventional student, my spiritual path challenged me to earn my BFA and be ordained as an Interfaith Minister by The New Seminary in New York City. Having no religious affiliation, I believe that within the hearts of all of humanity one can discover, if one probes deeply, that we all resonate with the common universal law of extending our nature of truth, beauty and love which leads, if one is diligent, to ultimate freedom.
Between 10%-30% of proceeds from my work goes to support sustaining social justice activism. Without self-care, activists and community organizers risk exhaustion and hopelessness. Transformative practices such as meditation, yoga, nutrition, writing, drumming, angelic & solay therapy, communing with nature, laughter and art nourish mind, body and spirit as we work and play towards social change. 2008 |
